I was too limiting about "serif"

My definition for "serif" did not include horizontal lines that could be at the tops of letters, like H.

My revised definition is: A thin line attached to the top or bottom of letters, or other decorative effects such as the “flag” attached to the top of the lowercase “h,” which may make text easier to read. Serif faces are generally used in books, but not on websites.
